Q: Do your yukatas come with an obi belt?
A: No. All accessories, including the obi belt, are sold separately so you can choose your own and design your unique look.
Q: How do I choose the right size for a women's yukata?
A: Measure your hip, waist, and bust, and use the largest of the three measurements. Regular fits 40" or less, Plus size fits 50" or less, and Extra Plus fits 56" or less. If your largest measurement is over 56", contact us and we can help you check a style.
Q: Are yukatas cheaper than kimonos?
A: Generally yes. Yukatas are more affordable because they use affordable materials like cotton and simpler construction, while kimonos can be more expensive due to craftsmanship and materials.
Q: Are Modern Sakura yukatas authentic?
A: Yes. We work with the same manufacturers as the ones that make yukatas for domestic market in Japan.
Q: Do you sell both men’s and women’s yukatas?
A: Yes, Modern Sakura offers a range of yukata styles for both men and women.
Q: Where can I buy a plus-size yukata in the US?
A: Modern Sakura. We are a US-based online shop, and we ship from our warehouses in Shelton, Connecticut and Las Vegas, Nevada. US shipping is always free. We carry Regular, Plus, and Extra Plus sizes.
Q: What do I need to wear with a yukata?
A: A yukata, an obi belt, and two koshihimo cords to hold it in place (we sell koshihimo as a set of two). A hadajuban (undergarment) can be worn underneath. Accessories, including the obi belt, are sold separately, so you can choose your own.
General Yukata Kimono FAQs
Q: Can anyone wear a yukata?
A: Yes! Yukatas can be worn by anyone. They are traditional Japanese clothing but are now enjoyed worldwide. Yukatas require less accessories to wear properly and are very beginner friendly.
Q: What is the difference between a kimono and a yukata?
A: Technically, a yukata is a type of kimono, and it's the most casual form of kimono. Yukatas are usually light and breathable and made of one thin layer of fabric, while kimonos usually have interior fabric lining. People mostly wear yukatas in summer, while kimonos can be enjoyed all year round.
Q: When should I wear a yukata?
A: Yukatas are casual garments, perfect for summer festivals, fireworks shows, and anime conventions.
Q: I'm tall / petite — will a yukata fit my height?
A: Length can be adjusted with the waist fold, and width cannot be adjusted. A taller wearer folds less, so the garment hangs longer. A petite wearer folds more to take up length. A very tall wearer may wear it with no fold at all.
Care & Maintenance FAQs
Q: How do I wash a yukata?
A: Yukatas can be hand-washed in cold water and air-dried. We recommend avoid washing yukatas often since the colors will look less vibrant the more you wash. If yukatas get really dirty, you can wash them in the washing machine with a gentle cycle and cold water.
Q: Will my yukata wrinkle easily?
A: Yukatas can wrinkle if stored improperly. Folding carefully and using a garment bag helps keep your yukata in perfect condition. To remove wrinkles gently after taking it out of the bag, hang up your yukata and let the gravity do the work.

Q: Do you ship internationally?
A: Yes, Modern Sakura ships worldwide. Delivery times vary by country.
Q: How long does shipping take within the USA?
A: US shipping is always free. Free Economy shipping takes 3 to 10 business days, and Priority shipping (2 to 3 business days) is $15. Orders are normally shipped within 5 business days. We ship from our US warehouses in Shelton, Connecticut and Las Vegas, Nevada. International shipping is calculated at checkout.
Q: Can I return or exchange my yukata?
A: Yes, we accept returns and exchanges within 30 days, even if you've tried on the yukatas. Please see our returns policy for details.
Q: I have a coupon code. How do I use it?
